I received the book “Making aromatherapy cream and lotions, as a gift, and I was quite excited at first, but this has to be the most frustrating book on the subject I have seen so far. If you make the mistake of judging this book covers it, it looks like a book on the subject – the back cover proclaims that in five easy steps you can make recipes. This is very confusing, I have creams and lotions before and I can honestly say that although the basic concept is simple, this book uses mostly hard to find ingredients and is completely practical for the home hobbyist. This book is basically for someone who has access to the most obscure ingredients, and I’m not talking about essential oils, but the ingredients “core” that the author used to make their recipes. Most of these articles will not be able to find at your local pharmacy or health food store, and if they manage to find the ingredients online, are willing to spend much money. Another major problem with this book is that everything is measured in grams or ounces occasions, but the amounts are so small that the average balance of the cooking at home, not like that myself, is capable of accurately measuring . To really measure ingredients accurately, it would require expensive digital scale gram increments measured by individual (non-5-gram increments, as some lower-cost) – as I said, not for the amateur home. Even the book’s title is misleading – there is not even close to 101 recipes for creams and lotions, there are approximately 20. The rest of the book is clean, fruit masks, balms, etc. and a lot of information about the different ingredients and stories about home businesses (this is the best part of the book). Many of the recipes contain ingredients perishable and should be used immediately or the author recommends them fresh each day. The back of the book “bio” indicates that the author “… It is also a lawyer from Washington, DC.” I am not a lawyer but do not have time to make these recipes every day, perhaps this woman does. My suggestion is that if you are a beginner or are looking to expand its base repetoire, try one of the books by Janice Cox. She has hundreds of recipes for all kinds of toilletries that are easy and fun to make with items you already have in your house or you can stay in a health food store, and not frustrate to no end.

As a homeowner from Bath and Body products business, I am always on the look out for new recipes to test, adapt, etc. Although there are some fabulous sounding recipes in this book, the use of hydrosols, Sea Berry and Rose Hip Co2 Seeds (never heard of them, always) make them too complicated and expensive for someone who just wants to learn to put together some simple cosmetics at home. Some of the ingredients, waxes, in particular, I had never heard of. Maybe someone who lives in the U.S. would have an easier time acquiring the “exotic”, but my good Canadian suppliers do not sell. Nor am I interested in your use of borax in recipes because it can be a sensitizer to some people and there are more preservatives in soft market can use. I can not say I am completely disappointed, but a strong word of warning to those thinking they will find easy “first timer” recipes here – they will not.

It took less than an hour after receiving this book to realize that most of the cream and lotion recipes are not practical for me to do. Not only that, the author seems to favor the use of highly processed ingredients. She seems to be far more concerned with the texture or appearance of their creams in their natural state as possible. Reading the book, I found myself wondering how anyone in the world with a life could find the time to hunt all ingredients (many of them are quite exotic, and she does not suggest substitutes), to say nothing of its preparation. I was quite disappointed. There are a lot easier to acquire the ingredients to be very therapeutic for the skin. The description on the back cover is definitely misleading. Most creams and lotions are a lot of time to prepare and simply not practical (and definitely not easy). I decided to return the book 1 hour after receiving it from Amazon. The two stars are in my grade for the presentation (which is a beautiful book).

I have read dozens of books over the years that use the same type of natural ingredients. Dona Maria has discovered and made available the latest technologies for home aromatheraputic manufacturer nuetricutical. Some people have had problems locating the ingredients as CO2 extracts, hydrosols and waxes. In the years since the book was first published, these ingredients flourish on the Internet. . . not one that I have not been able to find. I’m so excited to have a new address to experiment with the preparations for face and body.
The book is presented in several sections. The details of the first cross-section of essential oils and extracts (such as Sea Buckthorn Berry), many of nutritious vegetable oils (such as Tamanu oil), and finally, emulsifiers and thickeners (such as emulsifying Vegatable Wax).
Then come the recipes. The first recipes are for creams and lotions. These recipes seem to be favorite of Dona Maria. The only problem I had with the thickening of the creations was the addition of some ingredients as natural emulsifiers that do not choose not to use (as an emulsifier Vegatable Wax). However, I use beeswax formulas. Dona Maria says to herself that “as much as the addition of these ingredients increase the aesthetic appeal of a product, does nothing to treat the skin.” Thus the following section:
Elixers skin. Aromatheraputic wonderfully nutritious concoctions to feed your skin and psyche. These recipes are oil and water 50/50. How can you resist the recipes as “Dry Skin Sundae” and “dew drop”? This is my favorite section, though there were more recipes for dry skin skin more fat.
elixers as wonderful as they are, there’s more. The last section covers Beauty Food aromatic. The fruit-in-your-face kind of recipes with ingredients as the root of Saponaria, Clays, Eos, honey, mango, oats, hydrosols. . . the list goes on.
This is my new favorite book of skin care recipe. . . I like to try new ingredients that research has to be very beneficial to the skin. Even brands of health food stores can not begin to touch the quality of these elixers. Be good to yourself and to “feed your skin.”

I loved this book. I’m a soap maker and sold in farmer’s markets. I like to offer my customers with other things, then soap.
This book is full of recipes do not fail. Donna uses a lot of exotic ingredients (not hard for me to find, but can be difficult for others).
I tried three recipes and each has been unique. As I worked through the recipes, I realized that it had acquired a more complete understanding of how the work process. Using the recipes was a course on the lotion and cream making.
sell one of their creams and one of his balms on the market that do very well for me. Once you get a knowledge of the ingredients you’re working, it’s easy to make adjustments to their needs.
I’d like to write another book. This is a keeper, I have two copies for me.
